August 2010
Hi Everyone
Thanks for the reactions to Heather the statue/secretary (or is she?). Back from the USA with no tan because the heat was too intense but had a great time there with my gigs and catching up with people. Was superb playing with Joseph Deveaugh-Geiss again after a few years of not seeing him. He's the real deal !!!
I treated myself to another little Martin guitar also. Was second hand and cheap as French Fries in a store in North Carolina and I had the right change in my back pocket to get it. Looks OK too. See how it sounds when I get it plumbed in with pick up.
I am off to Denmark for a little while now where I enjoy myself a lot even if only for a week. Looking forward to that as well. It's one of my favourite places to visit in Europe as the pace suits me. (Slow...)
I have a decent set of shows for the autumn starting on September 3rd when I will be performing at the Wombwell Mad Fest. I am really looking forward to that one. That little Gigs button below takes you to all the shows and there are many of my favourite gigs in there too.
I am really excited about the fact that a hero of mine, Claire Hamill, is out touring again too. I have loved her music since I was 16 years old. She was the youngest songwriter signed to Island Records and having John Martyn play on your first LP is pretty impressive. You may have heard Eva Cassidy perform her work. Claire is at the Bothy in Southport in October.
Thanks for all the support and contact on Facebook. I am not so good at touching down on Myspace but will catch up with that when I can in September. Enjoy the remainder of the summer and stay in touch with me eh!
Hello everyone and thanks for dropping by again - I know you don’t have to.
Website
Jimmy and Val have done a great job here with the website. Everyone’s been telling me how good it is. Thanks for that.
Gigs
I had a great trip away playing at Faversham and Redbourn. Christine Connolley who wrote January Morning which I recorded on the 'It’s A Cover Up' CD came to Redbourn and joined me for 'Sing A Chorus With Me' at the end of the night . That was a bit special and great songs too from Bill Redway at the break.
No sooner had I got back home then it was soon out the door to Leigh Folk On Friday and a full house of great singers. I did a Bono impersonation at the end and phoned J&V who wrote 'One More Song' so they could hear the audience in fine voice. Don’t know if I’ll do it again as it’s bit pretentious but it was fun.
[Note from Jimmy & Val: How special and thoughtful is that! We were dumbstruck as we took the call.]
Thanks to everyone at the gigs.
Songbook Launch Concerts
Two really special events:
The songbook is proving a big hit, and many thanks to everyone who has bought one (or two in some cases). Thanks too for the positive comments - see the Songbook page... and there are even more on the new Reviews page too!
PayPal
The new website also has PayPal on the Albums and Songbook pages, so you can buy using the whizzy buttons... there's even a button for a special offer on some of my earlier recordings too. You don't even need your own Paypal account - the system also accepts credit and debit cards.
Songbook - it's official... the songbook is on the street. Go to the Songbook page to order your copy now!
From his recent gig at Chesterfield Folk Club Anthony John has been invited by the Mayor to play the Mayor's Gala on 2nd May. See the Gigs page for full details.
He'll still be checking the aol emails, but the new address will be his main one from now on.
Oh, and don't forget. There are two special Songbook Launch Concerts coming up at the end of February, one in Liverpool and one in Stockport. Again full details are on the Gigs page. He would love to see you all there... and tell your mates as well.
